A typology inversion for the Bronx

Completed with Chengie Jacob Li under Adam Frampton (Only If) for Core III: States of Housing - “Part to Whole, after the Nuclear Family”

Realizing that a new type of building form would risk appearing alien in the context of the urban fabric of the Bronx, we sought to utilize familiar New York forms - the tower and the perimeter building - and propose new models for housing that challenge the definition of existing family structures and the idea of “units”. The project uses differently scaled shared spaces as organizing devices; creating levels of neighbor-ship as a prescription within the architecture, and as a way of reinforcing human relationships.
