karl gerstner accordion

for doug scott's history of graphic design class, we were each assigned a significant designer as the subject of an accordion and extensive research. i was immediately fascinated by the notion of karl gerstner's rigid, complicated design framework as a gateway to unlimited and flexible design, as well as his sensitivity to audience and belief that good design should be accessible to everyone.

inspired by his grid for capital magazine, i created a similar grid on 6x9 inch sheets to create an accordion that branches off in multiple directions. the accordion features his work for schwitter, capital, and swissair, and details the influences throughout his life and the progression of his work.
